Bespoke Garden Bars Built for Scottish Entertaining
A garden bar gives you a proper home for outdoor entertaining, a permanent, purpose-built structure where people want to spend time.
MacColl & Stokes designs and builds bespoke garden bars in Glasgow and Central Scotland, from open-fronted outdoor bar structures on a paved terrace to fully enclosed, insulated garden pub rooms you can use all year round.
Every bar is designed around your garden, your brief, and how you entertain. We handle the groundworks, the structure, the electrics rough-in, and the finishing, including the bar top, lighting, and storage. Part of our outdoor living range.

Garden Bar Styles We Build
A garden bar can be as simple as an open-fronted serving structure on a terrace or as fully fitted as an enclosed pub room with heating, TV, and a working tap. The right style depends on your space, how you entertain, and how much use you want to get out of it through the year.

Open Outdoor Bar
An open-fronted structure on a paved or decked terrace. No enclosed room, just a permanent bar with a roof and serving front. Keeps the garden feel while giving you a proper place to serve and store.
Lean-to Bar
Fixed against a fence, garden wall, or the house itself. Makes use of an existing structure, reduces the footprint required, and suits narrower spaces where a freestanding build would feel oversized.
Tiered Garden Bar
A bar structure on a raised or tiered level, accessed by steps. Works well on sloped gardens where a flat build is impractical, and creates a natural focal point in larger spaces.
Enclosed Garden Bar Room
Fully clad and insulated, with windows and a door. Usable year-round, and practical enough to double as a garden pub or a separate social room away from the house.
Bar with Outdoor Kitchen
A bar unit built alongside or integrated into an outdoor kitchen setup, creating one continuous entertaining structure. Combines the cooking and serving areas so everything runs from the same space.
Garden Pub
A fully themed enclosed bar room with signage, optic rail, bar stools, and a complete interior fit-out. Designed and finished to the same standard as the inside of your home.
Additional options include a serving hatch, a covered seating area, an adjacent fire pit or chiminea, an integrated sound system, and a TV aerial point.

What We Can Include In Your Garden Bar
The brief below covers the most common features we install. Most projects combine several. Your design is built around the features that suit how you actually use your garden.
Bar Top
Hardwood, composite decking board, or porcelain, each sealed and weatherproof. Hardwood gives a premium finish; porcelain and composite require less ongoing maintenance in wet conditions.
Storage Shelving and Bottle Display
Open shelving behind the bar, lit or unlit. Built into the structure so bottles and glasses are accessible without cluttering the bar top.
Lighting
LED strip under the bar top, overhead festoon, and spotlights inside enclosed rooms. Lighting wiring is planned into the first-fix stage so all cabling is concealed within the structure.
Bar Fridge or Regerator
An undercounter fridge or keg tap system, plumbed or freestanding. The fridge position and power supply are planned into the build from the groundworks stage so there is no retrofitting.
Sink with Water Supply
Cold water connection with a stainless steel or composite sink. Plumbing routes are designed before the structure is built to keep pipework hidden within the frame.
Electric Supply and Sockets
Positioned for fridge, sound system, lighting, and TV. The electrical rough-in is completed before the cladding goes on, which keeps the finish clean and the sockets correctly positioned.
Additional fittings include an optic rail, drip tray, glass storage, lockable shutters or hatch, and bar stools and seating.
Materials that handle Scottish weather
A garden bar takes more weather abuse than almost any other garden structure. It sits outside year-round, it faces Scottish rainfall levels, and if the materials are wrong, the finish degrades fast. These are the materials we use and why.

Pressure-Treated Timber Frame
The structural frame for all garden bar builds. Pressure treatment forces preservative into the timber to resist rot and moisture in Scottish conditions, significantly extending the structural lifespan compared to untreated alternatives.

EPDM Rubber Roof
Flat or low-pitch roofing that is fully waterproof and handles freeze-thaw cycles without cracking. EPDM carries a 20-year expected lifespan and is the standard roofing specification on most garden bar builds we complete.

Composite Cladding
Low-maintenance exterior panels that will not warp, split, or need painting. Composite cladding holds its colour and surface finish through wet winters without annual treatment.

Composite Decked or Paved Base
Drainage-rated composite decking or porcelain paving beneath the structure. Both avoid water pooling under the bar, which is the most common cause of premature timber frame deterioration in this climate.

Hardwood Bar Top
Iroko and oak are the most common choices. Both give a premium finish and hold up well outdoors when correctly sealed. Hardwood bar tops require annual oiling to maintain moisture resistance at Scottish rainfall levels.

The Details
Design details include colour-matched cladding and bar front, integrated guttering and downpipe, recessed lighting in the soffit, and natural timber interior lining for enclosed rooms.
How We Design and Build Your Garden Bar
With over 40 years landscaping experience, we have built up an extensive portfolio of work and pride ourselves in being able to turn our client's visions into a reality. With a wealth of knowledge in garden design and construction, we know we can create the perfect environment for you.

Initial Discussion
Let's have a chat about your garden space, specification, design aspirations and budget.

Site Survey
We assess the space, orientation, proximity to the house, access for utilities, and ground conditions. This tells us what is practical before any design decisions are made.
Design Consultation
Bar type, open or enclosed, cladding finish, bar top material, fittings, and lighting are all confirmed at this stage. You see the design before any groundworks begin.

Groundworks
Base preparation, drainage, concrete pad or decked base, and electric and water rough-in. This stage sets up everything the structure sits on and connects to, so it needs to be right before any building starts.

Structure Build
Frame, roof, cladding, windows and doors where applicable, bar counter, and shelving. Each element is installed in sequence so the structure is sound and the finish is clean.

Completion!
Electrics first-fix, final inspection, client walkthrough, and a maintenance guide covering your specific materials and fittings.

The MacColl & Stokes Difference
We build bespoke outdoor kitchens from a focused BBQ station with granite worktops to a fully equipped garden kitchen with sink, pizza oven, fridge, and overhead cover.
Bespoke design from scratch
No kit builds and no flat-pack structures. Every garden bar is designed for the specific space, the specific client, and the specific way it will be used.
Full project management
Groundworks, base, structure, and fit-out are managed under one team. You have a single point of contact from survey to handover.
Materials specified for Central Scotland
Every material choice is made with Scottish rainfall, frost, and temperature range in mind, not the drier conditions that most off-the-shelf garden building specifications assume.
Open and enclosed options
We build both and will give you an honest view on which suits your garden, your use case, and your budget. There is no pressure toward either option
