Site Survey
Measured survey of the plot, including levels, drainage, existing planting and boundaries. On sloped Bearsden gardens the level survey is the document everything else depends on.
Planting Schedule
Species, sizes and quantities, chosen for the aspect and the soil on your plot rather than a standard list.
Concept Layout
Where the zones sit, how you move between them, what each part of the garden is for. This is the stage where a long Bearsden plot stops being a corridor.
Materials Schedule
Every surface, wall and edge specified by product. No allowances, no substitutions later.
Scaled Plans
Drawn to scale and dimensioned, so it can be built and priced from rather than interpreted.

A visual of the finished garden before anything is dug. Useful when two people in a household are picturing different things.
Designing a Bearsden garden
Four things shape almost every design we draw in this area.
The deep rear plots behind the older villas need breaking into sections that each earn their place. A terrace that seats the number of people you actually host, a middle that does something, and a destination at the far end. Without that last piece the bottom third of the garden gets mown and ignored.
On the tighter interwar streets the gardens are overlooked from three sides. Screening is a design problem before it is a planting problem: where the terrace sits decides how much screening you need.
Bearsden ground moves. Designing with the fall rather than against it usually means terracing, which brings retaining walls and steps into the budget early. Getting the retaining right is the difference between a garden that holds up for twenty years and one that bulges in five.
A Bearsden garden, designed and built
The Bearsden garden we built through winter 2024 into early 2025 shows what the zoning approach produces. Light grey porcelain runs off the house, grey composite decking picks up the level change, and the far end carries a seating area with a real fire pit and an outdoor kitchen under a pergola roof. There is a dedicated growing area as well. The design came from Gardens and Projects and we built it to their specification.

We build to other people's drawings regularly and it is a straightforward relationship when the drawing is good. The Bearsden garden above came from Gardens and Projects. At Newton Mearns we built to a planting specification by Mhairi Auld. Send us the plan and we will price it as drawn, and tell you honestly if anything on it will not work on your ground.
